Fletcher's Challenge 2012 Wrap Up

Fletcher's Challenge 2012 was a great success!

THANK YOU to all who PARTICIPATED! We had 110 trail race finishers, and over 300 participants in the walk around the lake. We heard lots of great comments about the feast of cookies, and hope to have even more cookie stations next year.

THANK YOU to those who VOLUNTEERED! This event would not succeed without the contribution of many many volunteers.

THANK YOU to our SPONSORS! The awards were spectacular, and the door prizes many. In addition to door prizes, food, and their time, our sponsors made significant cash donations that will be used by Runners of Compassion in our charitable works.

We heard a lot of positive feedback about this year's event, and hope to make next year's even better. If you liked Fletcher's Challenge, remember us next year, and please tell your friends. If there waw something you did not like, please tell us.

As our trail run participants found, we have some of the best trails on Vancouver Island, and were not shy to showcase them. Look forward to finding out how we can top ourselves with next year's course design! TRAIL RUNNERS - Were you aware that Runners of Compassion leads group trail runs every Saturday morning through the entire year!? Our typical group runs are a few kms shorter than this year's race course, and we enjoy all of Nanaimo's best trails. Visit our website, or email us for more information.

We saw hundreds of smiling kids and adults alike walking and running around Westwood Lake. This year they were greeted to cookies every 2km. Next year we would love to reward them once per kilometer! After the walk, the kids enjoyed an easter egg hunt with candy of epic proportions. Can you think of a more fun way to spend Good Friday with your friends and family? How many of your friends can you bring for next year!?

We have opened the comments below, and would love to hear from you. If you have additional photos or news links, please send them to us by email.

Fletcher's Challenge 2012

Welcome to Fletcher's Challenge 2012!

Please join us in making the Fletcher's Challenge event for 2012 the biggest and most fun ever. There is fun to be had for people of all ages.

13km Trail Race - We have an excellent 13km trail run for those who enjoy a real challenge. This will be a point to point race, and will feature some of Nanaimo's best trails. This will be a timed event, and guaranteed fun.

6km Family Cookie Run/Walk - Gather up the kids, and come on out for the ever popular cookie walk! This event is a blast for those of all ages. Entrants enjoy a single lap around Westwood Lake, and are treated to cookie stations along the way for some extra motivation. The main goal is to have fun, but this event will have timing available for those who want to see how fast they can lap the lake.

Easter Egg Hunt - If the thrill of running around the lake and eating cookies is not enough to motivate your kids to participate, then how about the lure of the post-run easter egg hunt!?

There will be some excellent door prizes available from our sponsors, as well as awards for the top finishers in their age groups.

This running event memorializes Mr. Gavin Fletcher who died at too young an age. He was a well known sports columnist, a member of ROC, a husband and father.

His family values were paramount but his love of good fun competition in sports was unequalled. It is with this intent that we fashion The Fletcher's Challenge, held each year on Good Friday open to both runners and walkers.

It is about participation, having fun and enjoying some physical activity with your family. A big draw is the cookie run for kids around Westwood Lake. However; cookies are not the exclusive domain of the kids, as all runners and walkers are treated to some pretty good home-baked treats after their run/walk!

2012 Sponsors

Many thanks to all of our event sponsors!
